Every verse in Tiruvachagam is sweet like sugarcane. Each section has its own beauty and its own symbolic meanings, which shed light on Saivism. In the section titled "Tiruandapaguthi", Manickavachagar says that Lord Shiva exists in the entire Universe. We cannot estimate His greatness, or even venture to describe Him. He exists in the minutest of particles. If you take a beam of light that enters a house, He is present in every particle in that beam. He is like a mighty whirlwind. He creates, sustains, hides and destroys everything, and He does all this with ease. He just has to think about something and it gets done. The thought is His, and the execution of that thought is taken care of by His Consort Sakti. Together, they accomplish everything.
In Tiruandapaguthi, Manickavachagar talks of those who follow any one of six faiths, and says no matter which God is worshipped, Shiva goes as those Gods and blesses the worshipper. Beside His greatness, the celestials are like mere worms. Did they not go to Him seeking solutions to their problems? Did not Lord Shiva consume the Halahala poison that emerged from the ocean, thereby saving eveyrone? Lord Shiva gave the Sun its heat and the Moon its coolness. He gave fire its heat, ether its vast spread, wind its speed, water its sweetness, and the Earth its strength.
Manickavachagar describes Shiva's greatness and his own experience: "Behold Him who is infinite and who is ancient! Behold Him whom even the Gods cannot fathom! I have seen Him with my eyes. I have been blessed to receive His mercy".
The greatness of Tiruvachagam lies in its devotional content, its philosophy and the beautiful Tamil it is written in.
